Ewing, NJ – Stockton University (6-19, 2-6 NJAC) rallied late but dropped a 7-3 decision to The College of New Jersey (12-15, 3-5 NJAC) on Friday afternoon. It was the second game in as many days for the two squads in the home-and-home series.

Freshman
Jimmy Casey (Newtown, PA/Archbishop Wood) and
Joe Gmitter (Hamilton/Steinert) each had two hits on the day in the 10-hit attack, with Gmitter picking up two RBI.

Matthew McCloskey (Cinnaminson/Cinnaminson) reached base three times with a pair of walks and a single.

Yenuelle Rodriguez (Vineland/Vineland) drove in a run with a double.

Freshman
Anthony Ungaro (Cherry Hill/Paul VI) pitched a career-high 6.1 innings in relief.

How it Happened:
The Lions opened the scoring with a single marker in the second inning for a 1-0 lead.

Stockton answered with their first run of the game when Rodriguez doubled home Casey to knot the game at 1-1 in the top of the third frame.

The home team added three more scores in their half of the inning to garner a 4-1 advantage. The Lions tacked on three more runs to make it 7-1 before Stockton attempted a late rally in the final stanza.

Liam Schwinn (West Chester, PA/Henderson) singled, and
Nick Avagnano (Paramus/Paramus) walked and promptly stole second. With runners on second and third, Gmitter singled to score two runs to close the gap to 7-3.

Dom Vizzoni (Trenton/Notre Dame) ran for Gmitter and stole second.
Max Kaplan (Wall/Wall) was hit by a pitch and both runners advanced on a wild pitch, but that's where the rally ended in the 7-3 loss.

Nate McLaughlin, Michael Contiliano, Andrew Pearson, and Jack O'Donnell all had two hits with O'Donnell picking up two RBI.

Jesse Beer pitched 7.2 innings allowing one run for the win. Austin Hanni earned the save.
