Glassboro, NJ – Stockton University (4-14, 0-3 NJAC) played tough but dropped a 9-4 road decision to Rowan University (14-2, 3-0 NJAC) on Thursday afternoon. The Profs are ranked ninth nationally in Division III by The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).
For Stockton:
Sal Cassano (Matawan/Matawan) led the attack with two hits, his second straight multi-hit game, and scored one of the four runs.
Yenuelle Rodriguez (Vineland/Vineland),
Joe Gmitter (Hamilton/Steinert),
Jimmy Casey (Newtown, PA/Archbishop Wood) and
Michael Antonucci (Manasquan/Manasquan) had RBI.
Rodriguez,
Liam Schwinn (West Chester, PA/Henderson), and
Dom Vizzoni (Trenton/Notre Dame) tallied the other runs for the Ospreys.
Stockton reached base on 10 walks and seven hits on the day.
How it Happened:
Stockton opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the third inning on RBI by Rodriguez and Gmitter for a 2-0 lead.
Rowan bounced back with three runs in the fifth before the Ospreys tied the game at 3-3 on a bases loaded walk to Casey in the sixth stanza.
The Profs took the lead for good with a single run in the sixth frame, along with two more in the seventh and eighth innings for a six-run lead.
The Ospreys made one final charge in the final frame, loading the bases and scoring on an Antonucci walk, but could get no closer in the 9-4 defeat.
For Rowan
Brayden Davis led the 12 hit-attack with three hits, including a home run, three RBI and two runs.
Teammates Nick Struble and Ian Murphy added two hits each, with Struble garnering a pair of RBI.

Stockton plays the second of the home-and-home series against Rowan tomorrow afternoon in Galloway. Game time is set for 3:30 pm
