Camden, N.J. – Stockton University (21-3, 7-1 NJAC) split an NJAC doubleheader with Rutgers-Camden (7-11, 2-6 NJAC) on a day in which the Ospreys moved up four spots to #15 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll. Stockton won the opener 9-2 but was edged 1-0 in the nightcap.
In the first game,
Alexa Panagopoylos (Atco/Hammonton) went 2-3 with a home run and four RBI. Freshman
Emily Clauss (Delanco/BCIT) was 2-3 with her first career homer, two runs and two RBI.
Fellow rookie
Camryn Harry (Swedesboro/Paul VI) lofted her first career home run and
Caitlin Cetrulo (Caldwell/Caldwell) went 2-4 with two runs, one double, one run and one stolen base.
In the third inning, Clauss slugged a solo homer and Panagopoylos launched a three-run blast to give Stockton a 4-1 lead. Harry capped a three-run fourth inning with a solo homer that made it 7-2. A sacrifice fly by Clauss in the fifth frame and an RBI single by Panagopoylos in the sixth set the final at 9-2.
Casey Sokol (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) came out of the bullpen and pitched four scoreless innings with a career-high nine strikeouts for the win.
After totaling 12 hits in game one, the Ospreys managed just three safeties in game two. Clauss doubled while Panagopoylos and freshman
Cassie Stallwood (Flemington/Hunterdon Central) each singled.
Lexi Liquori (Union/Union) pitched a four-hitter, but the Scarlet Raptors broke through for a run in the bottom of the fifth and pulled the 1-0 upset.
For Rutgers-Camden, Ava Lepson and Alana Gannon each had two hits in the opener. Sammie Friel pitched a complete game and stymied the Ospreys in the nightcap.
Stockton will play its next four doubleheaders at home, starting with an NJAC twinbill against Montclair State on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
