Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (6-18, 2-5 NJAC) played one their most solid games of the season, shutting out The College of New Jersey (11-15, 2-5 NJAC) by a score of 14-0 on Thursday afternoon. It was the Ospreys' first whitewash of the year.
For Stockton
Every Stockton player that saw action had at least one hit in the contest as the Ospreys pounded out 15 hits and scored 14 runs.
Yenuelle Rodriguez (Vineland/Vineland) had three hits, with
Nick Avagnano (Paramus/Paramus),
Russell Halvorsen (Howell/Howell) and
Evan Palmer (Manchester/Manchester Twp.) getting a pair of hits each. Palmer also had three RBI.
Liam Schwinn (West Chester, PA/Henderson) scored three runs, with
Matthew McCloskey (Cinnaminson/Cinnaminson),
Joe Gmitter (Hamilton/Steinert), Halvorsen and
Michael Antonucci (Manasquan/Manasquan) each scoring twice.
Freshman
Nick Kowalewski (Point Pleasant/Point Pleasant Boro) was outstanding on the hill, tossing a career-high eight shutout innings and allowed just three hits for his first career win.
How it Happened
Schwinn manufactured the opening marker in the first inning, when he singled, stole second and third, then scored on a throwing error for the only run the Ospreys would need in the game.
Stockton broke the game open in the fourth inning, tallying seven runs on seven hits for an 8-0 advantage. Two RBI by Palmer and one each by Halvorsen, Antonucci,
Jimmy Casey (Newtown, PA/Archbishop Wood), Avagnano and Rodriguez pushed the home team to the big lead.
Two more runs in the fifth, sixth and eighth frames gave Stockton the 14-0 shutout.
For The College of New Jersey
Nate McLaughlin, Braden Dromboski and Antonio Destribats had the safeties for the Lions.
Next Game
Stockton will travel to Ewing, NJ tomorrow for the back half of the home-and-home series against the Lions. Game time is scheduled for 3:30pm.
