Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (3-2) scored twice in the first three minutes and rolled to a 6-2 victory over Washington College (2-3). The Ospreys led 4-0 at the half and capped the win with two goals in the fourth quarter.
Freshman
Stella Devlin (Millville/St. Joseph Academy) led the offense with her first two career goals and also made a defensive save.
Riley DeMarco (Hammonton/Cedar Creek) and
Jenna Gregula (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) chipped in with a goal and an assist apiece.
DeMarco got Stockton off to a fast start with an assist by Gregula just 1:09 after the opening whistle. Only 1:44 later,
Maura Somers (Berlin/Eastern Regional) poked in a loose ball for a quick 2-0 lead.
In the second quarter,
Mia Collins (Branchburg/Somerville) tapped in a centering pass from DeMarco to make it 3-0. Later in the period, Devlin tipped in a shot by
Kylee Donegan (Shamong/Seneca) for her first goal at the college level.
Jamie Baldwin got Washington College on the board in the third period, and Stockton led 4-1 entering the fourth quarter. Gregula scored on her own rebound with 2:16 gone in the final period for her team-leading third goal of the season.
After Baldwin scored her second marker of the game for the Shorewomen, Devlin capped the 6-2 triumph with her second of the night on a blast from the top of the arc.
Stockton goalkeeper
Delfina Vanelli (Galloway/Absegami) collected the win with three saves while her counterpart Charlotte Schurman made 10 stops for the visitors.
Stockton will host Alvernia on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
