Stockton University Athletics

Chester, PA – Stockton University (5-2) won their third straight match with a dominant 5-0 whitewash over Widener University (2-4) on Tuesday night. Riley DeMarco (Hammonton/Cedar Creek) paced the Ospreys with two goals on the night. The Ospreys held a massive 35-7 advantage in shots and 16-4 in shots on goal during the match.
 
The Ospreys scored the only goal they would need in the first period, when Leah Bruchansky (Medford/Shawnee) scored after her initial shot was blocked for the 1-0 lead at 13:11.
 
2:21 into the second frame, Meghan Phillips (Somers Point/Holy Spirit) tallied her third goal of the season on a penalty stroke to make it 2-0. With 1:49 remaining in the half, DeMarco hit the back of the cage for her third of the year to make it 3-0. After three blocked shots from Stockton, Maura Somers (Berlin/Eastern Regional) found DeMarco to send the Ospreys into the break, up by three scores.
 
DeMarco scored her second of the night in the third quarter for a four-goal margin. Jessica Bruther (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) inserted a penalty corner to Jenna Gregula (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT), who found DeMarco for the tally. Bruther added the icing on the game with her third of the season in the 55th minute for the 5-0 shutout and Stockton's third consecutive win.
 
Delfina Vanelli (Galloway/Cedar Creek) continued her outstanding play in net, with a four-save effort in posting her second shutout of the season.
 
Emma Korenthal made eight saves in 54:50 of play in goal, while taking the loss for Widener.
 
Stockton will play the second of three straight road tilts on Thursday, when the Osprey face Haverford College in Haverford, PA. Game time is scheduled for 7pm.
