(Galloway, NJ) – Richard Stockton (24-6) hosted the Osprey Classic tri-match and split its two contests on the day. The Ospreys began by topping NYU (13-12) in four sets, 25-17, 15-25, 25-14, 25-23. After NYU defeated Cabrini, Stockton then fell to Cabrini (16-7) in four close sets, 25-20, 21-25, 25-22, 25-22. The defeat snapped the Ospreys' 22-match home winning streak.
Stephanie Warner (Totowa/Passaic Valley) led Stockton with two-match totals of 30 kills and 13 blocks.
Warner sparked the Ospreys past NYU with a team-high 14 kills and a match-high seven blocks.
Nicole Serekian (Mahwah/Mahwah) and
Kasey Hennecke (Fair Lawn/Fair Lawn) contributed 13 and 12 kills respectively. Setters
Mayan Alvarado (Gainesville, FL/P.K. Yonge) and
Shannon Clark (Folsom, PA/Ridley) each dished 22 assists, with Alvarado also notching 10 digs for a double-double.
Ashley Gubista (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) paced Stockton with 15 digs.
Serekian pounded six kills in the first set to lead the Ospreys to the 25-17 win but NYU took the second stanza 25-14 to even the match. Hennecke tallied four kills as Stockton rebounded to win the third set 25-14. Hennecke was the focal point in the fourth set with six more kills and Warner added four spikes as the Ospreys closed out the match 25-23.
Warner paced Stockton against Cabrini with team highs of 16 kills and six blocks while Serekian contributed nine kills and a team-high 12 digs. Setters Alvarado and Clark handed out 18 and 16 assists respectively. Gubista scooped 10 digs for the Ospreys.
Stockton managed just six kills in the first set, two by Serekian, and the Ospreys fell behind with the 25-20 defeat. The Ospreys raised their game in the second set as Warner led them to a 25-21 win with five kills. Warner slammed six more kills in the third set but Cabrini edged Stockton 25-22. Warner again was the top hitter in the fourth set with four kills but the Ospreys fell 25-22 again.
Stockton will host Kean in an NJAC match on Thursday, October 25 at 7:30 pm.
