(Hoboken, NJ) – Richard Stockton (13-4) picked up a pair of victories on the first day of the Stevens Ducks Invitational. The Ospreys began by sweeping Baruch 25-21, 25-17, 25-15 and then they rallied to defeat Elmira in four sets 20-25, 25-23, 25-9, 25-23. With the two victories, Stockton has now built a three-match winning streak.
Kasey Hennecke (Fair Lawn/Fair Lawn) and
Nicole Serekian (Mahwah/Mahwah) led Stockton to the sweep of Baruch with nine kills apiece. Hennecke also contributed defensively with 11 digs while
Ashley Gubista (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) topped the Ospreys with 15 digs. Setters
Shannon Clark (Folsom, PA/Ridley) and
Mayan Alvarado (Gainesville, FL/P.K. Yonge) dished 20 and 11 assists respectively.
Serekian and freshman
Ali Giordano (Waldwick/Waldwick) keyed the offense with 11 kills apiece in the triumph over Elmira. Clark and Alvarado once again shared the setter duties with 19 and 18 kills respectively. Gubista led the Ospreys with 17 kills followed by
Emily Grube (Orwigsburg, PA/Nativity) with 12 digs and Serekian with 11 digs.
Stockton will continue play in the Stevens Ducks Invitational tomorrow with matches against NYU-Poly at 10 am and Coast Guard at 2 pm.
