(Vero Beach, FL) – Richard Stockton (4-4) began its 10-game stint in Florida with a pair of defeats as the Ospreys fell to Bridgewater State (MA) 5-4 and Wesley 7-2.
Keith Tappert (Toms River/TR East) and
Brett Solomen (Harrison Twp./Cleaview) led the Ospreys with three hits apiece on the day.
Tappert went 2-4 with two doubles, a run and an RBI against Bridgewater State. Solomen was 2-4 with a double, two runs and one RBI while
Mike Bush (Manahawkin/Southern) and
Travis Marra (Toms River/TR East) also finished with two hits apiece. Bridgewater State scored three runs in the top of the sixth for a 5-1 lead. Stockton answered with three runs of its own in the bottom half but went scoreless in the last three innings and fell 5-4.
Stockton managed just five hits in the 7-2 defeat to Wesley. The Ospreys took a 2-0 lead in the second inning as Marra walked and later scored on an error, and
Barry Larro (Cedarville/Cumberland) stroked an RBI single. Wesley took the lead for good with four runs in the top of the third and tacked on single runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh frames to set the final score.
Stockton will be back in action tomorrow with games against Norwich University (VT) at 9 am and Wesley at 1 pm in Vero Beach.
