(Cortland, NY) – Richard Stockton (1-1) opened the 2013 season at the SUNY Cortland Tournament and came away with a split on the day. The Ospreys dropped the first match to Clarkson University 3-1 (25-12, 20-25, 25-19, 25-23) before rebounding in the nightcap and downing Buffalo State 3-0 (26-24, 25-10, 25-22)

Against Clarkson, Nicole Serekian (Mahwah/Mahwah) and Kasey Hennecke (Fair Lawn/Fair Lawn) led the team with 10 kills each. Freshman Lindsay Schuele (Sparta/Sparta) served five aces to lead the squad and added eight kills for the match.

Mayan Alvarado (Gainesville, FL/P.K Yonge) finished with 16 assists and eight digs while teammate Shannon Clark (Folsom, PA/Ridley) added 18 helpers and eight digs. Emily Grube (Orwigsburg, PA/ Nativity) scooped a team-high 19 digs while Serekian added 13 more for a double-double.

In the nightcap against Buffalo State, Serekian again posted a double-double with 12 kills and 17 digs. Alvarado also notched a double-double with 19 assists and 13 digs. Clark added 18 assists as well. Schuele scooped 10 shots while fellow freshman Idi Uffen (Williamstown/Williamstown) had nine kills.

Stockton continues on day two of the tournament tomorrow as they will face Nazareth College at 11 am followed but a match with Mount Union College at 1:30 pm.
