New Stockton Team Makes Successful Debut with Win

(Galloway, NJ) – The brand-new Richard Stockton women's lacrosse team (1-0) made its intercollegiate debut a success with a 16-4 victory over Notre Dame University (MD) (0-1) in the program's inaugural game. The Ospreys scored six goals in the first seven minutes and never looked back. Zoey Kramer (Eatontown/Red Bank Catholic) led Stockton with six goals followed by Carlie Flake (Tabernacle/Seneca) with two goals and an assist.

Kim Raichelson (Brick/Brick Memorial), Colleen Knight (Pennsauken/Camden Catholic) and Alicia Leadbeater (Franklinville/Delsea) netted two goals apiece for the Ospreys. Rianna Martorano (Manahawkin/Southern) and Mary Stornes (Galloway/Absegami) each played a half in goal, with Stornes notching six saves in the second stanza. The victory also marked a prosperous debut for Stockton head coach Kim Williams in her first game as a head coach at the college level.

Kramer needed just 26 seconds to score the first goal in Stockton women's lacrosse history on a free position shot. Just 16 seconds later, Knight buried her first marker and the Ospreys were on their way. After Flake potted her first of the day, Raichelson and Jenny Carpenter (Egg Harbor City/Absegami) struck 18 seconds apart for a 5-0 lead. Kramer's second of the game capped an onslaught of six goals in the first 6:54. Five minutes passed before Kramer and Nicole Miller (Southampton/Seneca) netted tallies 20 seconds apart for an insurmountable 8-0 lead before Notre Dame got on the board.

Stockton followed with a pair of markers from Kramer sandwiched around a goal by Knight for an 11-1 count with 6:30 left in the first half. Notre Dame scored the last two counters of the period to make it an 11-3 Stockton lead at the break. After the Gators notched the first goal of the second half, Stockton hit the net five more times in the last 22 minutes, paced by Leadbeater with two tallies, for the 16-4 final score.

Brittany Peddicord scored twice for Notre Dame while teammates Sawyer Butto and Carrie Naylor added one goal apiece. Gators' netminder Deja Martin finished with 13 saves.

Stockton will be back in action on Tuesday night when the Ospreys host Lancaster Bible at 7 pm.
