Stockton Overwhelmed 16-5 By Rowan

(Galloway, NJ) – Richard Stockton (9-4, 1-3 NJAC) allowed seven unanswered goals to Rowan University (8-4, 2-2 NJAC) in the first 17 minutes and dropped a 16-5 decision on Tuesday night. The game was played in a steady downpour throughout the evening and was the third loss in the last four games for Stockton. The five goals tied for the lowest scoring output of the year during an otherwise successful first season for the Ospreys.

Stockton was scored upon just 29 seconds into the game and fell behind 1-0. The Profs later tallied three scores in a span of 1:04 during a 7-0 run before Carlie Flake (Tabernacle/Seneca) broke into the scoring column for Stockton to make it 7-1. After four more markers by Rowan, Nicole Miller (Southampton/Seneca) hit the net, but the Ospreys trailed 12-2 at the break.

The second half was a little tighter as the Profs outscored Stockton by a slim 4-3 margin. Miller, Flake and Colleen Knight (Pennsauken/Camden Catholic) scored for the Ospreys but it was not enough to overcome the deficit. The tallies by Knight and Flake came in the last 46 seconds of the contest, setting the final score at 16-5.

Osprey netminder Mary Stornes (Galloway/Absegami) took the loss, making six saves in the first 40:46 before giving way to Rianna Martorano (Manahawkin/Southern), which finished up kicking out two shots. Knight scooped a team-high four ground balls while Flake topped Stockton with four draw controls.

Jamie Blondina led the Profs with six goals, all in the first half. Becca Wood chipped in with four markers, with Kelly O'Brien dishing two assists. Goalkeeper Lindsay Barrie picked up the win by kicking out eight shots in net.

Stockton will play their last regular season home game next Tuesday as they will host The College of New Jersey at 7pm. The Lions are ranked #4 nationally by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA).
