Stockton Falls 20-9 in First NJAC Game Ever

Boxscore

(Montclair, NJ) – Richard Stockton (8-2, 0-1 NJAC) played their first conference game ever and fell to unbeaten Montclair State (11-0, 1-0) 20-9. Colleen Knight (Pennsauken/Camden Catholic) paced the offense with three goals followed by Carlie Flake (Tabernacle/Seneca) with two goals and an assist. The Ospreys stayed with the Red Hawks, who top the Also Receiving Votes category in the IWLCA national poll, for the first 18 minutes before Montclair State pulled away. The defeat ended Stockton's six-game winning streak.

Nicole Miller (Southampton/Seneca) scored an unassisted goal 3:04 into the game to give Stockton an early 1-0 lead that would be their only advantage of the match. After the Red Hawks netted three straight goals, Knight potted a pair of markers 17 seconds apart to pull the Ospreys into a 3-3 tie. Montclair State answered with two markers in 35 seconds but Flake made it a 5-4 game with a goal assisted by Zoey Kramer (Eatontown/Red Bank Catholic).

The Red Hawks broke the game open with six unanswered counters in the last 11 minutes of the first half and then scored just 13 seconds into the second half for a 12-4 count. Kramer halted the barrage 30 seconds later but Montclair went on a four-goal run in the next three-plus minutes and Stockton faced a 16-5 deficit. Each team scored four markers in the last 22 minutes for the 20-9 final score. Flake, Knight, Miller and Alicia Leadbeater (Franklinville/Delsea) hit the net for the Ospreys during that span.

Stockton goalkeeper Mary Stornes (Galloway/Absegami) notched a career-high 12 saves but Stockton was outshot 44-14. Stornes also topped the Ospreys with five ground balls and two caused turnovers while Flake scooped three ground balls.

Stockton will play another conference game on Tuesday when the Ospreys host Rutgers-Camden at 7 pm.
