Buffalo State boxscoreCortland, NY – Stockton University (2-1) began play at the Cortland Red Dragon Classic by splitting a pair of matches against teams from upstate New York. The Ospreys swept SUNY Cortland 25-18, 25-23, 25-21 but then saw a furious rally from a two-set deficit fall short to Buffalo State in five sets 25-23, 26-24, 12-25, 21-25, 18-16. The defeat was Stockton's first of the season after starting with two straight wins.
Lindsay Schuele (Sparta/Sparta),
Idi Uffen (Williamstown/Williamstown) and
Jenna Lara (Ridgefield/Ridgefield) led the Ospreys past Cortland with eight kills apiece.
Shannon Clark (Folsom, PA/Ridley) tallied 17 assists, 10 digs and four kills while
Jessica Ciandella (Beachwood/Roselle Catholic) dished 14 assists.
Rebecka Zabilowicz (Belmar/Red Bank Regional) scooped 16 digs and served three aces in the sweep.
Lara spiked a career-high 16 kills and registered six blocks in the marathon against Buffalo State, followed by Kovacs with 12 kills and Uffen with 10. Ciandella handed out a career-high 29 assists and Clark added 19 helpers plus 10 digs. Zabilowicz established a new career high with a whopping 42 digs and Schuele contributed 10 digs plus six kills.
Stockton will face two more teams from upstate New York tomorrow at the Cortland Red Dragon Classic. The Ospreys will play SUNY Geneseo at 11 am and Nazareth at 1:30 pm.
