During the last match of the season in April 2022, golfer Tamara Farrow stepped in a hole on the green and injured her right knee. She was evaluated the following day by Athletic Training Services and referred to an orthopedic surgeon who diagnosed her with a sprain of the
medial patella femoral ligament (MPFL). Because of the severity of her injury and sport participation, the physician recommended surgery. Tamara completed a few months of presurgical rehab and on August 3 underwent an
MPFL reconstruction. She was locked in full extension for 6 weeks but was permitted to begin rehabilitation exercises as soon as she returned to campus for the fall semester. Rehab started with isometric exercises with her quad & hamstrings and isotonic exercises to the ankle and hip. We progressed her rehab as tolerated, adding in proprioception exercises and more challenging resistance exercises. We are anticipating the addition of sports specific activities after her next follow up visit with the orthopedic surgeon. The spring golf season does not begin until the second half of the semester, so fingers (and toes) are crossed for clearance to return to the green.
