Erik Ackerman (Long Valley/West Morris Central) concluded his cross country career by running in the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course on Saturday.
Ackerman, who competed in the NCAA Championship for the second straight year, finished 235th among the top 294 runners in Division III with an 8K time of 26:00.4 on the muddy course. Ackerman was in the top 100 spots for the first two kilometers and stood 140th at the halfway point of the race.
Ackerman was the third Stockton male runner to compete in the NCAA Championships, joining fellow two-time qualifiers Randy Wetzel (2002, 00) and Abad Akhtar (2010, 09). He earned his NCAA berth by placing 10th at the NCAA Regionals last week. A year ago, he recorded the best finish in Stockton Men's Cross Country history with sixth place at the regional meet.
In his distinguished career, Ackerman earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors three times (2022-24) as well as NJAC First Team twice (2023-34) and NJAC Second Team once (2022). Last year he was the NAJC men's cross county champion and NJAC Runner of the Year.
