Galloway, N.J. – A pair of Stockton University baseball players received all-conference recognition from the New Jersey Athletic Conference for the 2025 season. Juniors
Nick Avagnano (Paramus/Paramus) and
Joe Gmitter (Hamilton/Steinert) were voted NJAC Second Team.
Avagnano and Gmitter collected NJAC all-conference honors for the first time in their careers after helping Stockton to a 19-19 overall record that included seven victories in conference play.
Gmitter had a tremendous inaugural season at Stockton after two years at Mercer County College. The first baseman batted .405, ranking fourth in the league and eighth in Stockton history for a single season. Gmitter rapped 60 hits, which is second in the NJAC and fifth all-time at Stockton, with 27 of his safeties coming in league play.
Gmitter led the team and stands fourth in the NJAC with 44 RBI, with 23 coming against NJAC foes. He also topped the Ospreys with 18 multi-hit games. Playing primarily at first base, Gmitter committed just two errors in 217 chances for a superb .991 fielding percentage during the year.
Avagnano finished second on the team behind Gmitter with a .373 batting average for the year. The slugger led Stockton with 44 runs and six home runs, placing him fourth and tied for seventh in the NJAC respectively. Avagnano's 44 runs also tied the school record at Stockton. He was hit by pitch 16 times, which is tied for sixth in the league.
Avagnano was the only player to start all 38 games for Stockton this year. He topped the squad with 12 doubles, a.599 slugging percentage and a .471 on-base percentage. and finished second on the team behind Gmitter with 36 RBI. Avagnano showed his versatility by playing right field, first base, third base, designated hitter and catcher, and he did not make an error in 172 chances.
