Overview
Stockton Baseball won 12 games during the 2026 season, featuring a young roster that included a combined 22 freshmen and sophomores. The Ospreys collected seven wins in conference play and tied for sixth in the standings, narrowly missing out on an NJAC Tournament berth due to a tiebreaker.
 
Ten field players saw action in at least 23 games, with two playing in all 37 contests for head coach Rich Gawlak. Seven Osprey pitchers tossed 21 innings or more, a group that included three freshmen and three sophomores.

Highlights

• Nick Avagnano rapped 44 hits and batted .333, finishing second on the team in both categories. The senior tied for the team lead in doubles (8) and also finished second on the Ospreys in RBI (33), home runs (3), slugging percentage (.477), on-base percentage (.483), walks (25) and hit by pitch (15).
• Avagnano recorded NJAC single-game highs of six hits, seven RBI and 10 total bases against Rutgers-Camden on April 17. He also sported a strong .982 fielding percentage, making just five errors in 275 chances during the season.
• For his career, Avagnano batted .333 and set school records for doubles (44), runs (137) and RBI (125). He also finished tied for second in Stockton history with 16 home runs, third with 181 hits, tied for third with seven triples and sixth with 66 walks.
• Jimmy Casey had a tremendous rookie season, batting .304 while leading the team in home runs (5) and RBI (46), which was fifth in the NJAC and the third highest season total in program history. In addition, the freshman pilfered six bases, while making just two errors in 89 chances in the outfield for a .978 fielding percentage
• Liam Schwinn, another freshman, broke the school record and tied for sixth in the NJAC in runs (45). Schwinn started all 37 games at shortstop, batting .290 and leading the team with 27 stolen bases. The rookie compiled a team-best reached base streak of 25 games and finished third in the conference in walks (28) plus seventh in steals.
• Matthew McCloskey had a breakout sophomore season, leading the team in batting (.358), on base percentage (.522) and OPS (1.028) to go with 25 runs and 18 RBI in 28 games played including 24 starts. McCloskey finished fifth in the NJAC in on-base percentage, eighth in OPS and tied for ninth in hit by pitch (17).
• Joe Gmitter batted .270 with 38 hits, 26 RBI and 18 runs while starting 36 games. Gmitter tied for second on the team with eight doubles and also walked 19 times. After playing first base in 2025, Gmitter switched to third base and earned an ABCA Region IV All-Defensive Team spot with an impressive .955 fielding percentage in 134 chances.
• Yenuelle Rodriguez started all 35 games that he played during his first season at Stockton and batted .274 with 35 hits, 21 RBI, 11 steals and two home runs.
• Dom Vizzoni moved into the starting lineup and produced a solid sophomore season, playing in 31 games with 29 starts. The second baseman batted .299 with 29 hits, five doubles and 10 RBI. Vizzoni finished second on the team with 12 stolen bases and tied for second with 34 runs. He posted a .964 fielding percentage, making just five errors in 137 chances.
• Logan Madison came on late behind the plate, batting .292 with 14 hits and seven RBI in 19 games. Defensively, Madison made just three errors behind the dish for a .968 fielding percentage.
• Max Kaplan hit .274 and recorded a .473 on-base percentage that was second on the team in 23 games played. Michael Antonucci was limited to 23 games but managed to contribute 19 walks and 13 runs
• Sophomore Tim Welsh and freshmen Nick Kowalewski and Anthony Ungaro anchored the young pitching staff as the trio combined for almost 40 percent of the team's innings pitched and half of the squad's pitching wins with two apiece.
• Welsh led the Ospreys in innings pitched (47), starts (8) and strikeouts (34). Kowaleski made seven starts and tossed 40.1 innings, leading the staff in ERA (4.69) and opposing batting average (.232). Ungaro topped the team with 15 appearances out of the bullpen, placed third on the team with 38.1 innings pitched and recorded one save.
• Conner Praschil was forced into an elevated role on the pitching staff in addition to outfield duties and responded with two wins and a save in 31.2 innings pitched. Sophomore Justin Prekop was right behind Praschil at 29 innings of work in 11 appearances during which he notched one win and 21 strikeouts.
• Sophomore RJ Coleman (24.1 innings pitched, 1 win) and freshman Colin McGeehan (10 appearances, 21 innings pitched, 19 strikeouts) were two more young arms who tossed more than 20 innings while Dominic Mallamaci earned one victory and pitched 18 innings for the Ospreys.
