5/27/2025 3:43:00 PM

Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University baseball teammates Nick Avagnano (Paramus/Paramus) and Joe Gmitter (Hamilton/Steinert) were selected ABCA/Rawlings Region 4 Third Team by the American Baseball Coaches Association.

Avagnano and Gmitter added the all-region recognition to NJAC Second Team honors for their play in helping Stockton to a 19-19 overall record that included seven victories in conference play this spring.

Avagnano, who played at least one game at five different positions (C, 1B, 3B, RF, DH), led the Ospreys and tied the school record with 44 runs. The junior batted .373 with 53 hits and 36 RBI while also topping the squad in doubles (12), home runs (6), slugging percentage (.599), on-base percentage (.471) and OPS (1.070).

Avagnano tied for sixth in the NJAC in hit by pitch (16) and finished seventh in slugging percentage and OPS, tied for eighth in home runs, ninth in runs and 10th in batting average. He was the lone Osprey who played in all 38 games, starting each one, and he compiled 15 multi-hit games. Avagnano produced a team-high 10-game hitting streak and tied for the team lead with a 14-game reached base streak.

Gmitter, who joined the team as a transfer from Mercer County College, produced an outstanding first season at Stockton. The junior led the Ospreys in batting (.405), hits (60) and RBI (44) while adding 11 doubles, one triple, two homers and 19 runs. Gmitter became just the fifth Stockton player with a 60-hit season, and his 44 RBI tied the third highest total in program history.

Gmitter finished second in the NJAC in batting, tied for eighth in RBI and ninth in hits. He started all 37 games that he played and hit safely in 30 contests. Gmitter led the team with 18 multi-hit games and tied for the team lead with a 14-game reached base streak.
