Galloway, N.J. – The Stockton University women's lacrosse team and seven players qualified for academic recognition from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). The Ospreys earned acknowledgement as an IWLCA Academic Honor Squad by registering a team grade point average of 3.20 or higher for the 2023-24 academic year.
Stockton was one of 181 NCAA Division III teams to achieve IWLCA Academic Honor Squad status. The Ospreys went 11-6 in 2025, reaching double digits in wins for the third consecutive season under head coach
Denise Roessler. The campaign featured winning streaks of five and four games.
Qualifying for the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll for the second straight year were
Lilly Alessandro (Jenkintown, Pa./Abington),
Margot Costello (South Brunswick/South Brunswick),
Emily Deworsop (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) and
Brianna Robinson (Cape May CH/Middle Twp.).
The quartet was joined by first-time honorees
Isabella Marinello (West Caldwell/Caldwell),
Gina Marotta (Montville/Montville) and
Julia Gibson (Cape May Point/Lower Cape May).
The criteria for the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll were that student-athletes must be a junior, senior or graduate student with a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher.
Alessandro, an NJAC Honorable Mention, NJAC All-Academic Honorable Mention and CSC Academic All-District honoree, capped her career with her first all-conference honor after totaling 54 draw controls, 37 ground balls, 21 caused turnovers and five goals.
Alessandro finished 10th in the NJAC in draw controls per game (3.25). She moved up the Stockton career list with 132 draw controls (3rd all-time), 124 ground balls (2nd) and 56 caused turnovers (T-6th).
Costello scored 30 goals and dealt 14 assists for 44 points in her senior year. Costello also scooped 42 ground balls and caused 24 turnovers. She finished sixth in the NJAC in ground balls per game (2.63). Costello set a school record with eight caused turnovers against Ramapo on April 28. She was a CSC Academic All-District and NJAC All-Academic Honorable Mention player.
Deworsop, another CSC Academic All-District and NJAC All-Academic Honorable Mention selection, chipped in at the defensive end in her senior season, starting all 17 games and registering 25 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers, which was third on the team.
Robinson, a two-sport athlete who also plays basketball at Stockton, scored 14 goals, scooped 14 ground balls, and caused six turnovers in 16 games. She was an NJAC All-Academic First Team honoree.
Marotta had a tremendous junior year, tying the school record for draw controls with 74 while adding 49 ground balls and 25 caused turnovers. Marotta broke the school marks for ground balls in a game with 10 against Marywood on March 10 and caused turnovers in a game with 13 against Drew two days later on March 12.
She was named NJAC First Team, All-ECAC Team, NJAC Defensive Player of the Week twice and IWLCA Division III Defensive Player of the Week on March 11 along with being an NJAC All-Academic Honorable Mention selection.
Marinello scored 44 goals plus 20 assists for 64 points, with all three totals ranking second on the team. She placed seventh in the NJAC in goals per game (2.63) and eighth in points per game (3.83 ppg). Marinello set school records with eight goals and 10 points against Drew on March 12.
Marinello moved into third place in program history with 95 goals and 142 points as well as fourth with 47 assists. She was named NJAC Player of the Week once and also earned an NJAC All-Academic Honorable Mention nod.
Gibson had a significant impact in her first year at Stockton. She led the team in assists (27) and points (66) while scoring 39 goals, which was third on the team. The junior ranked sixth in the NJAC in assists per game (1.63) and seventh in points per game (3.94). Gibson tallied at least three points in 13 of her 17 games played.
