New Coaches Lead Stockton to Success in 2012

2012 Stockton Cross Country Season Recap

The Stockton cross country teams entered a new era in 2012 with coaches Jayson Resch, a Stockton alumnus, and Marina Muncan, a 2012 Olympian, taking over for their first year.  The new coaches relied upon a core group of veterans on each squad to positive results.  The Ospreys competed in seven meets and equaled or exceeded their 2011 finish at the two biggest events of the season, the NJAC Championships and NCAA Atlantic Regionals.

The Stockton women finished fourth or higher at six of the seven meets and placed third at the NJAC Championship and 18th in the NCAA regionals.  The Osprey men placed third or better five times and they were also third in the NJAC Championships and 19th at the NCAA regionals.

Junior Morgan Sinclair followed her breakout 2011 campaign with an even better season in 2012.  Sinclair registered four top-10 finishes and became the first Stockton female to earn all-region honors by finishing 32nd at the NCAA Atlantic Regionals.  She also won the NJAIAW Championship for her second career victory and qualified for the NJAC All-Conference First Team by placing fourth at the conference meet.  Sinclair was rewarded with a pair of NJAC Runner of the Week awards as well.

Senior Nicole Salge led a trio of returnees who were solid in support of Sinclair.  Salge collected an NJAC All-Conference Second Team spot by finishing a season-best ninth at the NJAC Championship.  Junior Laura Warren posted three top-15 finishes in five outings while junior Caitlyn Kozlowski placed between 18th and 22nd at three races.  Junior transfer Stephanie Paluchowski was a key newcomer who scored in four races while sophomore transfer Sam Merkh also contributed, highlighted by a season-best 13th place at the CTC Championships.

Junior James Rivers and senior Randy Faiges paced the experienced core of the Stockton men's team.  Rivers finished sixth or higher three times and earned an NJAC All-Conference First Team nod by placing sixth at the league race.  He also collected one NJAC Runner of the Week award.  Faiges recorded four top-10 finishes and garnered a spot on the NJAC All-Conference Second Team by placing 10th in the NJAC Championship.

Junior Mitchell Berlin was one of Stockton's five scoring runners in all five races that he ran, including two top-20 performances.  Senior Dillon Glasser placed among Stockton's top five four times while junior Alex Bruno peaked at the NJAC Championship by finishing 14th to earn an NJAC All-Conference Second Team slot.  Freshman Phillip Palmer placed 23rd or higher twice and was named NJAC Rookie of the Week once while fellow freshman Antonino Piro finished in the top 25 at two races.
