(Reading, PA) – Richard Stockton (11-3) split a non-conference doubleheader at Alvernia (8-4), rallying to win the opener 3-2 but falling 4-0 in the nightcap. Stockton senior
Michelle Pietrocola (North Brunswick/North Brunswick) broke the school record for pitching victories with her 43rd career win in the first game. Pietrocola remained unbeaten on the season (7-0) by pitching a two-hitter with nine strikeouts.
Nicole Chabak (Marlton/Cherokee) led the offense with two hits in each game.
Chabak went 2-4 with a double and two RBI in the first contest while
Grace Long (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) and
Samantha Shockey (Deptford/Deptford) each went 2-3 at the plate. Alvernia took a 2-0 lead with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth. Stockton came right back with three runs in the top of the fifth.
Nicole Scanlon (Colonia/Colonia) singled in the first run and Chabak came through with a clutch double with two outs that scored the tying and go-ahead runs. Pietrocola did not allow a hit in the final three innings to protect the 3-2 lead and earn the win.
Chabak went 2-3 in the nightcap but her teammates combined for only six additional hits and Stockton was shut out for the first time this season. The game was scoreless into the bottom of the sixth when Alvernia used four hits and two errors by the Ospreys to score all four of their runs, two of which were unearned, and deal Stockton the 4-0 defeat.
