(Union, NJ) – Richard Stockton (0-1) dropped their season-opening contest by a 1-0 score at the hands of New York University (1-0) on Friday afternoon. The contest was the first game of the Cougar Classic at Kean University.
 
The Violets netted the only goal of the contest at the 37:40 mark of the opening half when Olivia Braender-Carr took a long serve from the right corner and deposited the marker for the lead. NYU outshot the Ospreys 5-1 in the first half.
 
Stockton pressed the attack and generated numerous opportunities during the second half, squeezing off 10 of their 11 shots in the stanza, but to no avail. Lexi Stasi (Cranbury/Princeton) led the squad, firing four of the Osprey shots, followed by Adrianna Boucher (Hamilton/Steinert) with two shots.
 
Goalkeeper Lauren Haynes (Williamstown/Williamstown) suffered the loss, making five saves in net for Stockton. Cassie Steinberg kicked out three Osprey shots for the Violets in the victory.
 
Stockton will play again tomorrow when they will face off against Ithaca College on the second day of the Cougar Classic. The Bombers are ranked fifth nationally by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Game time is 12 pm.
