BoxscoreGalloway, NJ –
Lexi Stasi (Cranbury/Princeton) netted a shot from six yards away 6:50 into the first overtime period to give Richard Stockton (6-4, 2-0 NJAC) a thrilling 1-0 victory over the Kean Cougars (6-3, 0-2 NJAC) on Wednesday night. The win was the sixth consecutive victory for the Ospreys and second straight in NJAC play.
Â
The contest was evenly matched through the first 45 minutes with Stockton holding a 5-2 advantage in shots. Neither team could get a quality scoring chance however until the second half of play. Nine minutes into the second period,
Katharyn Sperber (Martinsville/Bridgewater-Raritan) took a feed from
Adrianna Boucher (Hamilton/Steinert) but her shot sailed high over the bar.
Â
Three minutes later, the Cougars had a chance to get on the board but Deanna Columbia, after getting behind the Osprey defense, blasted a shot that found the crossbar and the game remained scoreless the rest of regulation. The teams registered just two shots apiece in the half.
Â
Stockton's only shot of overtime found the net as Stasi's fourth goal of the season ended the tightly played game.
Chelsea James (Howell/Howell) sent a crossing pass that found Stasi, who potted the game-winner from six yards out for the 1-0 Stockton victory.
Â
Stockton goalkeeper
Lauren Haynes (Williamstown/Williamstown) made just one stop in the game and posted her fourth solo shutout of the season in the win. Kean goalie K.C. Nunez kicked out two shots in suffering the loss for the Cougars.
Â
Stockton's next game will be away from Galloway when they will face Montclair State on Saturday night at 6 pm. The Red Hawks are ranked #15 in the nation by the NSCAA.
