Coxson, Jeffers & Kass Receive NJAC Weekly Awards

3/4/2024 2:24:00 PM

Galloway, N.J. – Three Stockton University student-athletes received NJAC weekly awards for February 26-March 3. Drew Coxson (Lancaster, Pa./Chatham) was chosen NJAC Defensive Player of the Week in women's lacrosse, Aubrey Jeffers (Lumberton/Rancocas Valley) was selected NJAC Rookie of the Week in softball and Kayla Kass (Bayonne/Bayonne) was named NJAC Track Athlete of the Week.

Coxson led the Stockton defense with team highs of 10 ground balls and eight caused turnovers during two victories last week. The senior tallied four ground balls and three caused turnovers in a 20-1 rout of Delaware Valley on February 28 and followed with six ground balls and five caused turnovers in an 18-7 win at Marymount on Saturday.

Coxson's five caused turnovers were one off her own school record from last season. She is tied for the NJAC lead in ground balls (4.25/game) and sits second in the conference in caused turnovers (3.75/game). The NJAC Defensive Player of the Week honor was the first of her career.

Kass broke her own school record in the 800m by two seconds and won the AARTFC Championship in a field of 25 runners with a time of 2:12.32. The performance vaulted Kass into sixth in the nation in the 800m and clinched her berth in the upcoming NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Kass collected her second NJAC Track Athlete of the Week award for the 2023-24 indoor season. She was a three-time NJAC Runner of the Week in cross country during the fall as well.

Jeffers made an impressive debut by going 2-2 with one run and one RBI in her first college game, a 9-4 triumph over Muhlenberg on March 1. The freshman started both games of the doubleheader at shortstop and handled all five defensive chances without an error in addition to two hits in the opener.

The Stockton Softball team (1-1) is slated to play a doubleheader at Stevens tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. The Stockton Women's Lacrosse team (4-0) will host Alvernia on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. Kass will run in the 800m prelims at the NCAA Championships on Friday at 3:45 p.m.
