Galloway, N.J. – Five Stockton University softball players received Academic All-District honors from the
College Sports Communicators for the 2024 season. All five Ospreys collected the CSC academic recognition for the first time in their careers.
Senior
Megan Dignam (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy), juniors
Megan Sears (Oakland/Indian Hills) and
Emily Spencer (Southampton/Seneca) and sophomores
Caitlin Cetrulo (Caldwell/James Caldwell) and
Madison Manera (Clayton/Clayton) were Stockton's Academic All-District selections.
The five teammates all started at least 39 of the squad's 41 games and helped the Ospreys to a 24-17 overall record and the No. 4 seed for the NJAC tournament this spring.
The requirements for College Sports Communicators Academic All-District are a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average and sophomore or higher standing. Student-athletes must have played in at least 90 percent or started at least 66 percent of their team's games this season.
Dignam, an Accounting major, capped her career by starting all 41 games and batting .322 with four doubles, 21 RBI and 12 runs. The senior hit safely in 27 contests, compiled a 12-game hitting streak during the season and finished second on the team in RBI. Dignam also recorded an outstanding .969 fielding percentage in 96 chances while seeing time at four different positions (RF, 1B, 2B, 3B).
Spencer, a Health Science major, powered the offense in her first season at Stockton after transferring from Monmouth University. The second baseman started every game and led the team in batting (.352), hits (50), runs (27) and slugging percentage (.556) while also setting a school record with a team-high 15 doubles.
Spencer finished second in the NJAC in doubles, fifth in slugging percentage and tied for seventh in home runs (4). She rapped at least one hit in 34 of her 41 games played, including team bests of 14 multi-hit games and a 15-game hitting streak.
Sears, a Health Science major, started all 41 games and finished second on the team in runs (23) to go with a .299 batting average, 35 hits, 15 RBI, three doubles and three homers. The centerfielder, who amassed nine multi-hit games, was chosen NJAC Player of the Week once this season.
Manera, an Elementary Education major, started 39 games behind the plate, regularly catching both ends of doubleheaders. A defensive standout, Manera finished fifth in the NJAC in putouts (243) and total chances (260) yet still ranked eighth in the league with a near-perfect .992 fielding percentage.
Cetrulo, an Exercise Science major, excelled in her first season as a starter. The left fielder finished second on the team in batting (.342) and totaled 39 hits, 22 runs, 15 RBI plus a team-high five sacrifice bunts while starting 40 games. Cetrulo produced 11 multi-hit games at the plate and a lofty .930 fielding percentage on 43 defensive chances in the outfield.
