Galloway, N.J. – A pair of Stockton University volleyball players were selected for NJAC weekly honors for the week of October 5-12. Junior
Nicole Palmer (Islip Terrace, NY/East Islip) was chosen NJAC Player of the Week and senior
Laila Newborn (Lower Merion, Pa./Lower Merion) was named NJAC Defensive Player of the Week.
Palmer picked up her first weekly nod this season and sixth in her career. Newborn, a transfer in her first season at Stockton, received her first career NJAC award.
Palmer showed her versatility in two matches last week as the two-time NJAC Player of the Year led the team with a .367 hitting percentage and 17 digs while finishing second with 26 kills, five aces and seven blocks. Palmer also added five assists to her stat line.
Against Kean, Palmer registered her fourth double-double of the season with 15 kills and 12 digs plus an outstanding .393 hitting percentage in the match.
Newborn led the team with 15 blocks in the two matches last week, including a career-high eight stuffs against Drew. The middle hitter also contributed two kills, two aces and three digs in the two Stockton victories. Newborn leads the NJAC in blocks per set (1.00 b/s).
The Stockton volleyball team will play three times this week, starting with an NJAC tilt at home tomorrow night against William Paterson at 7:00 p.m. The Ospreys will travel to Glenside, Pa. on Saturday for a tri-match against Arcadia and Alvernia.
