Stockton Finishes Fifth at NCAA Metro Regionals

Logan Twp., N.J. – Stockton University finished fifth out of 25 teams that scored in the NCAA Metro Regionals, which were hosted by Rowan University at Dream Park. Stockton placed in the top six for the fifth consecutive year since the NCAA adjusted its regional alignments. Three Ospreys notched personal bests.
 
Rachel Hayes (Marlboro/St. John Vianney) led Stockton by finishing 11th out of 194 runners with a time of 22:23.9 for six kilometers that was a personal best by 23 seconds. Hayes earned an all-region spot by placing in the top 35 for the second time in her career.
 
Kayla Kass (Bayonne/Bayonne) finished in 22:49.8 for 25th place. Kass joined Hayes on the all-region list and acquired her third career all-region accolade.
 
Evelynn Austin (Sparta/Pope John XXIII) knocked three seconds off her personal best with a time of 23:18.5 that was good for 41st place.
 
Maddy Valasek (Medford/Shawnee) was the fourth Osprey across the finish line as she finished 48th with a time of 23:32.7.
 
Freshman Sophia Cornell (New Tripoli, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) broke the 24-minute mark for the first time in her young career and blew away her previous personal best by 45 seconds with a time of 23:43.8 that resulted in 55th place.
 
The NCAA Regional meet was the seventh and final race of the season for the Ospreys.
