Emma Petrolia (New Milford/New Milford) finished her season by earning Second Team All-America status with a 16th place finish in the 400m hurdles at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which are taking place at SPIRE Academy. Petrolia became an All-American for the first time in her career.
Petrolia placed sixth in her heat with a time of 1:03.00 on a soggy Thursday evening, but she was not able to snag a spot in the final. Petrolia missed ninth place and the last berth in the final by just 64 hundredths of a second in a very closely matched field of competitors. Overall, places 9-17 were separated by only 0.72 seconds.
By finishing between ninth and 16th, Petrolia qualified as a Second Team All-American in her second straight NCAA Championships appearance in the 400m hurdles. She earned Stockton's 21st All-American honor in women's outdoor track & field overall and fourth in a running event. The All-America nod capped another outstanding year for Petrolia.
Competing in indoor and outdoor track & field, Petrolia compiled a total of five USTFCCCA All-Region accolades and five NJAC All-Conference kudos in three events (400m hurdles, triple jump, 4x400 relay) while also setting school records in all three events outdoors plus the indoor 4x400 relay.
