Galloway, N.J. – A pair of Stockton University freshmen received NJAC rookie honors for the week of April 20-27.
Joie Buxton (Galloway/Absegami) was chosen NJAC Rookie of the Week in women's track & field for the second straight week.
Camryn Harry (Swedesboro/Paul VI) was selected NJAC Rookie of the Week in softball for the first time.
Buxton finished fifth out of 32 competitors in the College Women's Javelin at the Penn Relays on April 24 with a best distance of 42.63 meters. Buxton was the highest finisher out of three from NCAA Division III in the event. The freshman finished behind only throwers from Bloomsburg University, Yale University, University of Virginia and University of Delaware.
Buxton is ranked eighth in the nation in the javelin with a best throw of 43.65 meters that is also first in the NJAC and Metro Region by more than a meter. She has won the event in five of her six competitions this spring.
Harry led the Ospreys in batting (.571), doubles (5), slugging percentage (1.017) and on-base percentage (.647) as Stockton went 4-0 last week to clinch the NJAC regular season title. The first baseman registered at least one hit and one run in each game. Harry produced three multi-hit games, and six of her eight hits went for extra bases (5 doubles, 1 triple).
For the season, Harry is hitting .333 and stands second on the team in RBI (33), doubles (12) and walks (13) while also adding 20 runs and two homers. She is tied for fifth in the conference in doubles and seventh in RBI.
Stockton Track & Field will compete in the NJAC Championships at Ramapo College on May 4-5. Stockton Softball is the No. 1 seed for the NJAC Tournament and will host a semifinal round game against either TCNJ or Montclair State on Thursday at 3:00 p.m.
