(Galloway, NJ) – Richard Stockton (5-12) snapped a pair of dubious streaks as they downed Drew University (11-5) 2-1 in their first game back on their home field after three straight on the road. The Ospreys broke a 235-minute scoreless drought and also snapped a three-game losing streak.
Alison Paulus (Westhampton/Rancocas Valley) and
Susie Balidemaj (Hamilton/Steinert) scored one goal apiece for Stockton.
Stockton scored both of their goals in the opening period, starting just 6:42 into the contest as Paulus tapped in her second goal of the season from the right post after
Brittany Iveson (Barnegat/Barnegat)sent a pass her way. Later in the half, Balidemaj backhanded her team-leading 11th tally of the year to make it 2-0.
Megan Irving (Oaklyn/Collingswood) passed the ball through to Balidemaj, who cut to the middle and potted the goal.
Drew made it interesting in the second half as they scored on a penalty stroke by Brooke Gagliano 3:30 into the period to cut the Stockton lead in half at 2-1. The Ospreys kept the pressure up throughout the second stanza and the Rangers could not get the tying goal.
Jenny Carpenter (Egg Harbor City/ Absegami) contributed a defensive save to help preserve the lead. Stockton outshot the Rangers 17-11 and had 13 penalty corners to just four for Drew in the contest.
Goalkeeper
Liz Stankiewicz (Freehold Twp./Freehold Twp.) picked up her second win of the season, making four saves for Stockton. Drew goalie Cristiana Carlini kicked out 10 Osprey shots in suffering the defeat for the Rangers.
Stockton hosts Goucher on Thursday at 5 pm in the second match of its season-ending three-game homestand. Drew will travel to Washington, DC to face Catholic University on Friday at 4:30 pm.
