(Glenside, PA) – Richard Stockton (0-1) erased a pair of one-goal deficits before ultimately falling short 3-2 in its season opener at Arcadia (1-0).
Nikki Moore (Island Hts./Central Regional) and
Brittany Iveson (Barnegat/Barnegat) scored one goal apiece for the Ospreys. Sophomore goalkeeper
Sara Winters (Blackwood/Triton) made her first career start and finished with seven saves.
Arcadia quickly took the lead on a goal by Marilyn Beatty just 3:38 into the game but Stockton responded with a tally by Moore on a penalty stroke at the 8:17 mark to tie the contest 1-1. Lauren Altera struck with 8:37 remaining in the first half and the Ospreys trailed 2-1 at the break. Arcadia controlled the half, with advantages of 8-4 in shots and 8-3 in penalty corners. Winters made five saves before intermission.
The play evened out in the second half and Stockton finally broke through for the tying goal with 8:43 on the clock as Iveson scored with an assist from
Susie Balidemaj (Hamilton/Steinert). The game remained tied for just over four minutes before Beatty netted her second marker of the game with 4:15 remaining to deal the Ospreys the 3-2 defeat.
Stockton will play its first home game of the season tomorrow evening when the Ospreys host FDU-Florham at 6 pm.
