Stockton Edged by #20 Drew 1-0 in OT

(Madison, NJ) –Richard Stockton (10-5, 2-2 NJAC) battled 20th-ranked Drew University (13-2) through 70 scoreless minutes of regulation before falling 1-0 in overtime. Stockton goalkeeper Liz Stankiewicz (Freehold Twp./Freehold Twp.) made five saves and extended her shutout streak to 168 minutes until the Rangers broke the run with the overtime tally. Sarah Walsh (Tuckerton/Pinelands) contributed a defensive save for the Ospreys as well.

Stockton held a 12-7 advantage on penalty corners but Drew outshot the Ospreys 14-9 during the game. Megan Irving (Oaklyn/Collingswood) topped Stockton with three shots. In the first half, Colleen Knight (Pennsauken/Camden Catholic) was denied by a Drew defensive save and the Ospreys dodged a bullet when the Rangers' Amber De Marco missed wide on a penalty stroke.

Stockton generated eight penalty corners in the second half and had another scoring opportunity stopped by a defensive save, this one on a shot by Susie Balidemaj (Hamilton/Steinert) with 4:29 to play. Drew's Brooke Gagliano hit the crossbar with a shot earlier in the period for the Rangers' best chance. After 70 scoreless minutes, the game went into overtime, where Drew struck quickly as Brooke Gagliano scored just 49 seconds into the extra period to deal Stockton the 1-0 defeat.

Stockton faces an even bigger challenge in their next game, taking on an opponent ranked even higher than Drew. The Ospreys will host #1 Montclair State in an NJAC game on Saturday at 1 pm.
