Stockton Explodes in Second Half for 5-1 Win

(Madison, NJ) – Richard Stockton (11-6) exploded for five goals in an 11-minute span of the second half and defeated FDU-Florham (6-13) 5-1 on Halloween night in the next-to-last game of the regular season. Colleen Knight (Pennsauken/Camden Catholic) led the Ospreys with two goals and Megan Irving (Oaklyn/Collingswood) and Susie Balidemaj (Hamilton/Steinert) each chipped in with a goal and an assist while Rileigh Ruff (Delran/Delran) dished two assists. With the victory, Stockton added to their school record for wins in a season.

The teams managed four shots in apiece in a first half that was scoreless until the very end when FDU-Florham drew a penalty corner in the closing seconds and Lanie Andrews gave the Devils a 1-0 lead with no time on the clock. Stockton was blanked until the 53:51 mark when Knight banged home her first goal of the night to spark a five-goal onslaught. Ruff produced an assist with a pass across the goalmouth.

Less than three minutes later, Balidemaj broke her own record for goals in a season by redirecting a shot from Irving for her 14th marker of the year and a 2-1 Stockton lead. Irving then connected from the right side with 9:55 remaining for her seventh goal of the season. It took only 2:42 for Knight to make it a 4-1 count by knocking in another pass from Ruff for her second tally of the game.

Just 1:35 after that, Alicia Leadbeater (Franklinville/Delsea) scored her fourth goal of the season on a blast from the edge of the circle after a penalty corner insert by Balidemaj to close out the 5-1 victory. Stockton outshot FDU-Florham 9-0 in the second half to finish with a 13-4 advantage in the game. Ospreys' goalkeeper Liz Stankiewicz (Freehold Twp./Freehold Twp.) picked up the win with two saves on the night.

Stockton will conclude the regular season with an NJAC road game at winless Ramapo on Saturday. With a victory, the Ospreys will clinch a berth in the four-team NJAC tournament.
