Stockton Ties School Win Record with 3-2 Triumph

(Center Valley, PA) – Richard Stockton (8-3) erased an early deficit by scoring three goals in the second half to edge DeSales (5-7) 3-2 and tie the school record of nine wins in a season. Katie Carpenter (Egg Harbor City/ Absegami) led the Osprey comeback with a goal and an assist. Sophomore Grace Kinney (Brigantine/GCIT) scored her first career goal and freshman Alicia Belko (Hainesport/Rancocas Valley) also tallied for Stockton, which previously reached the nine-win mark in 2011.

The Ospreys fell behind quickly as DeSales scored two goals 1:38 apart to put them in a 2-0 hole less than eight minutes into the game. Stockton outshot DeSales by a slim 10-8 margin and attempted one more penalty corner than the Bulldogs in the first half, but they could not break through for a goal and trailed by two at the break.

Kinney jumpstarted Stockton's rally with her first college marker 8:19 into the second half and Rileigh Ruff (Delran/Delran) assisted on the play. Just 2:21 later, Belko scored her second goal of the season with an assist from Carpenter to pull the Ospreys into a 2-2 tie. The deadlock remained for nearly 18 minutes until Carpenter netted the game-winner with 6:54 to play to give Stockton their fifth straight win, 3-2.

The Ospreys outshot DeSales 23-9 in the game, including 13-1 in the second half, and Stockton goalkeeper Liz Stankiewicz (Freehold Twp./Freehold Twp.) earned the win with four saves. The Ospreys also generated 16 penalty corners while allowing just six to the Bulldogs.

Stockton's next game will be an NJAC contest at William Paterson on Friday at 7 pm.
