Pietrocola No-Hitter Highlights Opening Day Wins

Bridgewater State boxscore / Albright boxscore

(Fort Myers, FL) – Richard Stockton (2-0) got the 2013 season off to a great start with a two shutout victories, including a no-hitter, on its opening day.  Michelle Pietrocola (North Brunswick/North Brunswick) tossed her second career no-hitter and struck out 10 in a 7-0 win over Bridgewater State (MA) (1-2).  A second-inning walk was the only blemish on a Pietrocola's near-perfect game.  Brittany Ksiezopolski (Hillsborough/Hillsborough) followed with a six-hit shutout and six whiffs in a 6-0 victory over Albright (0-4).

Nicole Scanlon led the offense against Bridgewater State by going 2-2 with two RBI and two walks.  Stephanie Darrow (Marlton/Cherokee) and Danielle Kohen (Clark/Arthur L. Johnson) each delivered RBI on infield singles in the bottom of the first to give Pietrocola all of the support that she would need.  RBI hits by Scanlon in the second inning and Stephanie Hand (Mays Landing/Oakcrest) in the third made it a 4-0 game.  The Ospreys added three more runs in the sixth inning for the 7-0 final score.

A pair of newcomers led Stockton past Albright as junior college transfer Arielle Cooke (Brick/Brick Memorial) went 2-2 with a double and two RBI while freshman Gianna Cuffari (Cedar Grove/Cedar Grove) was 2-3, her first career hits, with a double and a run scored.

Stockton scored all six runs in the first two innings.  Cooke and Nicole Chabak (Marlton/Cherokee) each stroked RBI singles in the first frame.  Grace Long (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) and freshman Dominique Dorris (Mantua/Clearview) each ripped RBI doubles and Cooke added another RBI single in the second frame for a 6-0 score.  Ksiezopolski did not allow a hit in the first 3.2 innings and Stockton cruised to victory after taking the early lead.

Stockton will take on North Park (IL) at 1 pm and St. Mary's (IN) at 3 pm tomorrow in Fort Myers.
