BoxscoreGalloway, NJ – Richard Stockton (4-2, 1-0 NJAC) began conference play with a thrilling, come-from-behind 3-2 victory over William Paterson (3-4, 0-1) in double overtime. Stockton went to overtime for its second straight game.
Rileigh Ruff (Delran/Delran) led the Ospreys with two goals, including the game-winner.
Colleen Knight (Pennsauken/Camden Catholic) chipped in with a goal and an assist. The win snapped Stockton's eight-game losing streak to the Pioneers.
Â
Ruff gave Stockton the early lead 6:05 into the game with a blast from the left side assisted by
Alexa Massa (Moorestown/Moorestown) following a penalty corner insert by
Cassie Kirk (Middletown/Middletown South). William Paterson tied the game at 15:40 as McKenna Reynolds scored on a tap-in from in front, and the contest remained deadlocked 1-1 at the half.
Â
The second half evolved into a defensive struggle until the Pioneers broke through for a goal that was a mirror image of Stockton's first tally. With 10:30 remaining, Courtnaey Chelf scored on a blast from the left side following a WPU penalty corner. With just 4:37 left in the period, the Ospreys pulled into a 2-2 tie as Knight deflected home a pass from
Leah Davies (Ocean City/Ocean City) for her first goal of the season, which forced overtime.
Â
The teams combined for eight shots, four apiece, and five penalty corners in the first OT, but none of the tries resulted in a goal. With just under two minutes gone in the second overtime, Ruff one-timed a pass from Knight into the cage for her second goal of the day and third of the season to give Stockton the dramatic 3-2 win. Ospreys' goalkeeper
Liz Stankiewicz (Freehold/Freehold Twp.) backstopped her team to victory with eight saves.
Â
Stockton will take to the road on Tuesday for a non-conference game at Alvernia at 7 pm. Â
