Stockton Downed by Haverford 1-0

Haverford, Pa. – Stockton University (1-2) played strong defense but fell to Haverford College (2-1) by a 1-0 score on Wednesday night. Stockton fired nine shots, with Alexandria Palumbo (Mantua/Clearview) squeezing off five and putting three on net.

After a scoreless first period, the Ospreys pressed the action in the second frame, but could not connect for a score. At 24:53, the Fords scored after a penalty corner for a 1-0 lead that would last through the break. Dalia Bercow inserted the pass to Naomi York who potted the goal.

Haverford took control in the third period, getting off seven shots while holding Stockton without an attempt, but the Osprey defense was up to the task and kept the game at 1-0. The Ospreys were able to put one final attempt on net by Jamilyn Hawkins (Little Egg Harbor/Pinelands), but it was kicked away, and the home team held on for the 1-0 victory.

Goalkeeper Kylie Mitchell (Shamong/Seneca) made eight saves in net for the Ospreys.

For Haverford, netminder Mary Smith kicked out five shots in posting the shutout.
