Stockton Earns IWLCA Academic Honors

Galloway, N.J. – The Stockton University women's lacrosse team and six players qualified for academic recognition from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). The Ospreys earned acknowledgment as an IWLCA Academic Honor Squad by registering a team grade point average of 3.20 or higher for the 2023-24 academic year.
 
Stockton was one of 151 NCAA Division III teams to achieve IWLCA Academic Honor Squad status. The Ospreys set a school record with 14 victories under the direction head coach Denise Roessler, posting a 14-3 overall record and finishing third in the NJAC with a 3-2 conference mark.  
 
Senior Drew Coxson (Lancaster, Pa./Chatham) qualified for the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll for the second straight year and was joined by first-time honorees Lilly Alessandro (Jenkintown, Pa./Abington), Margot Costello (South Brunswick/South Brunswick), Emily Deworsop (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.), Lexie Jackson (Barnegat/Barnegat) and Brianna Robinson (Cape May CH/Middle Twp.).
 
The criteria for the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll were that student-athletes must be a junior, senior or graduate student with a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher.
 
Coxson became the first Osprey ever to be voted NJAC Defensive Player of the Year and ECAC Defensive Player of the Year. She also received IWLCA Boardwalk Region First Team, NJAC First Team, All-ECAC Team and NJAC All-Academic Honorable Mention accolades as well as one NJAC Defensive Player of the Week award.
 
Coxson led the NJAC in caused turnovers (3.12/game) and finished second in ground balls (3.12/game) to spearhead the Stockton defense. She set school records for caused turnovers in a season (53) and career (89) plus ground balls in a season (53). The senior also moved into a tie for fifth in program history in ground balls (97) and played in the IWLCA Senior All-Star Game.
 
Alessandro finished tied for ninth in the NJAC in ground balls (2.18/game) and was third on the team in ground balls (37) and draw controls (35) while starting all 17 games at midfield. The junior also added four goals and 15 caused turnovers.
 
Alessandro moved into ninth in program history in ground balls (87) and draw controls (78). She was named College Sports Communicators Academic All-District and NJAC All-Academic Honorable Mention.
 
Costello tied for fourth on the team with 18 goals and dished three assists for 21 points while playing all 17 games with four starts. The junior was named College Sports Communicators Academic All-District and NJAC All-Academic Honorable Mention.
 
Deworsop started all 17 games at midfield and contributed nine goals and four assists for 13 points on offense plus 29 ground balls, fourth on the team, and 11 caused turnovers. The junior received College Sports Communicators Academic All-District and NJAC All-Academic Honorable Mention recognition.
 
Jackson registered 71 draw controls, the second highest season total in program history, and finished sixth in the league (4.18/game). The senior became Stockton's all-time leader with 136 career draw controls as an Osprey and also chipped in with 15 goals, one assist, 22 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers.
 
Jackson was a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District and NJAC All-Academic Honorable Mention player this year.
 
Robinson finished third on the team with 25 goals and fourth with 29 points over the course of 16 games played including 12 starts. The junior also added 19 ground balls, 14 caused turnovers and five draw controls. A two-sport athlete who also plays basketball at Stockton, Robinson was an NJAC All-Academic Honorable Mention qualifier.
