Stockton Places 37th at Paul Short Run

Bethlehem, Pa. – Stockton University ran against the stiffest competition that the Ospreys will face all season and finished 37th in the Paul Short Run, which was hosted by Lehigh University. The race featured 11 nationally ranked teams and six of the top seven ranked squads in the Metro Region.
 
Kayla Kass (Bayonne/Bayonne) topped the Ospreys with a six-kilometer time of 23:07.2 for 142nd out of 406 runners. Kass moved up a whopping 43 places in the last 2.8 kilometers. Her time was the fifth fastest ever by a Stockton runner at the Paul Short Run.
 
Maddy Valasek (Medford/Shawnee) came in five seconds later at 23:12.6 for the seventh fastest Stockton time ever at the Paul Short Run and 157th place. Valasek gained 29 spots between the one-mile and two-mile marks plus 20 more in the last 2.8 kilometers.
 
Rachel Hayes (Marlboro/St. John Vianney) finished 196th with a time of 23:30.9 after improving 43 positions between the one-mile and two-mile markers.
 
Evelynn Austin (Sparta/Pope John XXIII) was the next finisher for the Ospreys in 251st place at 24:01.3.
 
Freshman Sophia Cornell (New Tripoli, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) completed Stockton's five scorers in 288th place with a time of 24:36.1, Cornell made her biggest move of 32 spots between the first and second mile markers.
 
Stockton will have two weeks to prepare for its next race, which is the Rowan Border Battle on October 18 at 10:00 a.m.
