Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University junior
Gina Marotta (Montville/Montville) was chosen IWLCA Division III Defensive Player of the Week by the
Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association. Marotta is the first Osprey in the program's 12-year history to be selected for an IWLCA national weekly award.
Marotta led the Stockton defense in a 15-7 victory over Farmingdale State on March 8 with career highs of eight draw controls and six ground balls to go with four caused turnovers, which tied her career high in that category. The junior was named NJAC Player of the Week yesterday.
Marotta has started all 38 games that she has played in her career at Stockton thus far. She is a key cog on defense for a 4-1 Osprey team that leads the NJAC in ground balls (25.20/game) and is allowing just 7.60 goals per game this season.
Stockton will take a three-game winning streak into a home matchup against Drew University tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.
